Window Treatment Safety For Indianapolis
The American National Standard For Safety Of Corded Window Covering Products went into effect June 1, 2024. This guideline requires most window coverings sold in the US to be cordless or have cords that come with special safety devices. It is a major effort toward phasing out the use of cords that are a strangulation risk to little children.
A New Window Cover Safety Standard
The Window Covering Manufacturers Association and American National Standards Institute is enforcing the new safety requirement for window covering products. ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022 is a criterion that spells out new guidelines for window treatments that “reduce the possibility of injury, including strangulation, to young children from the bead chain, cord, or any type of flexible loop.”
As of June 1, 2024, window coverings sold in the US have to follow the new safety standard. The bulk of products will come in cordless styles. Treatments that use a continuous loop operating system must include a kind of tension device that prevents the loop from becoming a strangulation hazard. These requirements will notably lessen the number of window treatment cord injuries and fatalities among young children.
